On Friday 8th February Former Nigerian President and Panel member Olusegun Obasanjo launched his Foundation with several African Heads of State, leading international business people, ambassadors, politicians and special guests from across the globe. The UK-based charity, the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (“OOF”), has the vision to advance human security for the most disadvantaged in Africa. It has been established with four initiatives dedicated to achieving the Foundation’s mission:
- Food and nutrition security through the “Feed Africa Initiative”
- Addressing gender imbalances through the “Girl Child Education Initiative”
- Promoting skills acquisition and youth employment through the “Youth Empowerment and Employment Initiative”
- A focus on the non–‐communicable diseases of sickle cell, hypertension, diabetes and waterborne diseases through the “Health Initiative”
“I believe now is the right time to take on this challenge. I myself have come from humble beginnings in Nigeria and have been witness to many difficult aspects of life. I have been fortunate to have overcome many of these challenges and feel a deep sense of obligation to give back what I can to the people of Nigeria and Africa” said Olusegun Obasanjo, Founder of the OOF.
