Africa is a wealthy continent, which offers many opportunities for profitable investment in a range of sectors. But investments in Africa have failed to significantly improve life for the majority of Africans. At the US–Africa Leaders Summit in Washington D.C on August 4-6, 2014, African leaders and President Barack Obama will discuss “Investing in the Next Generation”. They should make sure they focus on responsible investment, underpinned by principles of transparency and accountability, so that the continent can achieve the transformative growth it needs. To achieve the greatest impact, investments (and their profits) must be channeled towards areas where they generate the most jobs, thus allowing millions to achieve their potential.
