Mutual Accountability
In the Africa Progress Panel’s Annual Report 2009, the issue of mutual and accountability and shared responsibility took the shape of a matrix that identified what different actors including governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations the civil society and the private sector should do in terms of accountability, resource mobilization and leadership in order to secure progress for Africa.
One year later, the Panel still recognizes the critical importance of mutual accountability as a key element to help to ensure that commitments to and from Africa are honoured. One of the recommendations set forth in the Africa Progress Report 2010 is the establishment of a Mutual Accountability Index to help monitor progress in this area.
The Africa Progress Panel is working to support efforts that will increase mutual accountability in the region.
