African Development Bank Annual Meetings 2016

From 23 – 27 May Heads of state and government, Bank Governors, development partners, and business leaders will gather in Lusaka, Zambia, for the 2016 African Development Bank (AfDB) Annual Meetings.

The focus of the meetings is on the AfDB’s new agenda for Africa’s economic transformation. The pillars of this agenda are the Bank’s five new priority actions known as the High 5s.

New Policy Brief

To coincide with the Annual Meetings, the APP has published a new Policy Brief entitled Opportunity Africa: Powering the Future Now (PDF, 2 MB). This brief demonstrates how Africa can unlock the potential of an energy transformation and become a pioneering global low-carbon market.

Sections of this policy brief have been extracted from the APP’s 2015 report, Power, People, Planet: Seizing Africa’s Energy and Climate Opportunities (PDF, 2.4MB).

The APP, The Elders, The B Team, and the AfDB, have co-organized a High Level Side Event that was held on 25 May. The side event, entitled Africa’s Energy: What’s the New Deal?, focused on how Africa can achieve universal access to power by 2025.
